Kitchen Remodeling Survival 101
Kitchen remodeling is a hot topic for all you home improvement people of the world. And why not? The kitchen is the focal point in any home, and whether it’s adding new cupboards or a complete kitchen overhaul, kitchen renovations are a great way to increase the value of your property. That being said, how does one survive when the kitchen is torn apart and the remodeling begins? The key is planning.
Spending a little time planning before the project begins (the key is ‘BEFORE’ people) is the best way to ensure you survive the renovation and still have money left in the budget.
Set up a temporary kitchen. A good location may be in the basement or a garage. Somewhere you can have a makeshift countertop and place some smaller appliances like a toaster oven or microwave.
Track the progression of the project. Creating a list and marking off the items as they completed is a great way to keep a record of what’s getting accomplished. It can also give you an idea of the timeline. Remember to keep the vision in your head- that vision being a new kitchen!!
Keep commonly used utensils and kitchen tools in easy to access containers. Clear plastic containers work great because you can label them and also see what’s inside. The stuff you don’t use very much pack up and store in boxes.
Before the remodel begins it is a great idea to prepare a bunch of pre made meals and freeze them. Items like chile or soups are ideal because you can take them out and throw them in the microwave. Remember- the easier the better!
Call up friends!! Now this is my favorite… Remember your friendly neighbors?? Why not offer them a home cooked meal in exchange for utilizing their kitchen?? Sounds like a good deal….
Remodeling your kitchen is a great idea and remember that is doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Plan ahead and get creative!
