Learning vs. Education
School isn’t for everyone. Some people would say that history was their favorite subject, others would say free block was the best part of their day. What more people are starting to realize (hopefully) is that learning doesn’t always need to take place in a classroom. There are those of us who are more than happy to educate ourselves as long as we can do it outside of the traditional education system.
I could write a lengthy essay on the merits of ranking people with letters or numbers, and in fact I have, but even if we forego that part of the conversation I don’t think it’s unreasonable to state that not everyone functions the same way in a classroom, and that it is not always the best predictor of success down the road.
